Rissoles with Lentils

Lentils are a fantastic food, they are cheap to buy, then can stretch every meal further and most importantly to carnivores like my family, you feel like you are eating meat. They are healthy, they are full of fibre and you can hide them in foods so why not buy a packet and try this recipe today.

These recipe will make 24 rissoles so make some room in your freezer and serve half now, half later.

Cook: 15 minutes

Makes: 24 rissoles



  • 500 g minced beef
  • 1 onion, grated
  • 1 egg, whisked
  • 1 or 2 carrots, grated
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 cups prepared lentils (150 g dry, soaked overnight)
  • 1 tsp oil
  • salt, to taste



  1. Add all ingredients to a large bowl and mix well.
  2. Using your hands, shape the mixture into 24 patties.
  3. Heat the oil in a frypan over medium heat, add the patties and cook for 5 minutes each side or until cooked through.
  4. Serve with mashed potatoes and vegetables or a salad.
